Kaiseki Bento Box (New) at Necco Restaurant

I was invited to a sneak peek of the new
Kaiseki Bento Box at Necco Japanese Tapas Restaurant in West LA.

Kaiseki Bento Box

The traditional Japanese set was created by Chef Kenji Koyama and this 3 Tier set
debuts on September 1, 2017.

I know what a Bento Box is,
what's Kaiseki?

Without going into a lot of details,
it's a traditional Japanese multi-course meal, featuring a simmered item, a fried item, a grilled item, etc.

See What Jay Eats...

Vegetable Tier

Yaki Nasu:  Grilled Eggplant
(Top Left)
House-made Pickles
(Top Right)
Lotus Root & Gobo Root
with Sesame Dressing
(Bottom Left)
Okra Nori Goma Ae:  Okra with
sesame sauce and topped with gogi berry.
(Bottom Right)

The okra with the sesame sauce was amazing and cooked just right, great flavor too.
The eggplant was very traditional
with a dash of grated ginger.

Fish/Meat Tier

Albacore Nanban:  Lightly fried with a sweet sour sauce.
(Top Right)
Yuan Yaki Style Cod:  A miso glazed cod
(Bottom - under Lotus Root)
Wagyu Beef with Balsamic Soy
(Top Left)

Who doesn't like Wagyu beef?  So tender and flavorful.  My favorite was the albacore, it wasn't over cooked and great with sweet and sour sauce.  Miso Cod, you can't go wrong with that too.

Zuke Don Tier

Soy marinated salmon
with marinated ikura
over steamed rice.

Topped with Ikura,
need I say more?

Goes great with s glass of Soto Sake,
very smooth and easy to drink.

Enjoy with a friend, it's double the food,
I mean, Fun!!!

Not only is the food beautiful to look at, it tastes as good as it looks.
This Kaiseki Bento Box 2017 is $40.
IMO, it's a good amount of food.

Having studied Kaiseki cooking,
I know all of the work the chef and kitchen staff put in to make this 3 tier box possible.  I told the FOH staff that I could not do this, I'm so out of practice.

Beginning September 1st,
this Kaiseki Bento Box 2017
will be available during lunch
and dinner until Sept.14th.
After 9/14, the bentos will only
be available at lunch.
Limited quantities each day,
I would call ahead to reserve.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have a wide range of vegan menu items.
A friend told me that the vegan items were pretty good.  So, I'll have to come back for a vegan Japanese dinner.
