Buccumi Pizzeria & Raw Bar in Rowland Heights

The restaurant has closed on October 30, 2016.
IMO, right concept, wrong location.
I'm saddened by their closing, it was really good.

The second week in January is National Pizza Week,
thought it was fitting to celebrate at the new
Buccumi Pizzeria & Raw Bar in Rowland Heights.

Buccumi Pizzeria is from the same people
as Mokkoji (hot pot) in Arcadia.

Happy National Pizza Week!

Pork Belly & Guanciale Pizza
with chili dressing, romaine, mozzarella,
Calabrian pepper, and roasted garlic.

One of the many speciality pizzas
at Buccumi

I was invited to sample their new menu,
so let the tasting begin!

You'll see the Raw Bar as you walk in.

A fried 'Fanny Bay' oyster
served with a remoulade

 Bresaola Carpaccio
with arugula, truffle oil, parmesan,
and balsamic reduction.

I could have eaten two orders of these...

One of the many craft sodas
and mocktails.

Check the Red Board
for specials, it's a must order.

 Corn-Clam Chowder
with bacon, popcorn, and seaweed powder

Great flavor

 Farro & Apple Salad
with candied walnut, ricotta, romaine, and arugula
with a honey vinaigrette.

Buccumi Caprese
with burrata, roast garlic, heirloom cherry tomato,
basil pesto, balsamic, and shaved Parmigiano.

This was a table pleaser,
we were all fighting for the burrata

All of the pasta is made in house.

Fresh pasta makes a difference,
even in simple dishes.

 Buccumi Special
with squid ink bucatini, guanciale, clams,
shrimp, calamari, mussels, tobiko, and basil,
in a tomato sauce.

If you love seafood, you'd really like this dish,
cause I did!

Out of the wood-burning pizza oven comes...

 The Soy-Braised Short Rib Pizza
with melted leek, roasted garlic, and mozzarella

Happy National Pizza Week!

A pizza I enjoyed and would order again.

This pizza is served with a beef jus
and was a nice touch with the short rib.

Wasn't sure if you were supposed to
dip the slice or pour over.
I think I did both, either way it was good.

We finished off the tasting with
green tea truffles

Thank You Buccumi Pizzeria for having us!

One of the things I look for at a new restaurant
is something that's a standout dish or
speciality menu item.  Buccumi has a few items
that I would come back for again and again.

They have a wood-burning oven and make
pasta in-house.  Everything is pretty much
made on-site, except for the seafood.

If you like seafood, I recommend the Buccumi Special,
the Buccumi Caprese (I love burrata), and the Soy-Braised
Short Rib pizza.  These were some of my favorites
of the evening.

With a lot of Asian cuisine at the YES Plaza,
this is one of those hidden gems, if you love seafood,
pizza, and pasta.
