Hawaii: Mix with the Masters

"Mix with the Masters" an all-star cast of chefs, food producers and celebrity techies for a delicious day of talks, demos and Hawai'i in A Bowl lunch.  This is a full day of stories, information, and food...

During the Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival, I was looking forward to meeting with and learning more about the Hawai'i food producers and this was a great day.

Part I of IV

Friday, September 7, 2012

The morning began with slack key guitarist
@makanamusic

Chef Roy Yamaguchi
Co-Founder of the Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival

Introducing the morning's discussion

"Building a Sense of Plate and Place"

Moderator

Got the crowd warmed up with gifts
before introducing today's panelist:

Daniel Corpuz:  Student
Josh Feathers:  Blackberry Farm, TN
Michelle Galimba:  Kuahiwi Ranch
Keone Kealoha:  Malama Kaua'i
Ed Kenney:  Chef / Owner Town Restaurant
Mark Noguchi:  Hanohano He'eia Community Education Group

One of the impressive speakers today...
Daniel Corpuz (14)
Student

I was impressed with his story and future plans.
Not many 9th Graders have the understand of
"when we give, we receive" and "take care of
the 'aina" concepts.  Actually, some adults don't get it...

Panelist Comments:
Food has a story
Building the future through food
Community first
Love your 'aina
To know the future, you must know the past
Keep it local
Know where it comes from

The themes all tie together; using local, working together,
know where your food comes from, and sustainability.
It's funny how the stories are different but the
themes are the same.

(Left to Right)  Keone Kealoha, Ed Kenney, Mark Noguchi,
Daniel Corpuz, Josh Feathers, and Michelle Galimba.
